Professor Pierre Picard

Pierre Picard is currently Professor in Economics at Ecole Polytechnique (France). Previously, he held positions at Rouen University and Paris 10 – Nanterre University. He has also taught at Imperial College London, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, ENSAE and HEC Business School. He graduated from HEC Business School (France) and he obtained his PhD from Paris I University. His current research fields include the economics of risk and insurance, with particular focus on the insurance of large risk and natural disasters, corporate risk management, and insurance markets under asymmetric information, as well as, more broadly, the economics of contracts and incentives in markets and organizations. His works have been published in many economic journals, including Econometrica, American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory, Management Science, Journal of Public Economics, International Economic Review, European Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Risk and Insurance and Geneva Risk and Insurance Review. He has also authored five books. Pierre has received numerous awards and honours, including the Casualty Actuarial Society Award and the Robert C. Witt Award of the American Risk and Insurance Association in 2009, the IBM Faculty Award in 2009 and the SCOR-GRIR Best Paper Award in 2013. He was junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France from 1991 to 1996, president of the Risk Theory Society in 2005 and president of the European Group of Insurance Economists in 2009. He was Co-Editor of the Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance Theory from 2003 to 2009 and he is now Editor of the Annals of Economics and Statistics.
